What makes you Periodically IRRATIONAL?
★ Ir: Iridium is extremely hard to melt, making it useful in high-temperature situations, such as spark plug electrodes.
★ Ra: Radium was widely used in self-luminous clock and watch hands, until too many watch factory workers had died of it. Antique watches are still quite radioactive, and will stay that way for thousands of years.
★ Ti: Titanium is light weight and high strength. It is expensive because it must be carefully cast within a nonreactive gas atmosphere, such as nitrogen, carbon dioxide, or helium.
★ O. Oxygen makes up 21% of the atmosphere, and is what you breathe in to survive!
★ N: Nitrogen is a common element in the universe, estimated at about seventh in total abundance in our galaxy and the solar system. Colorless nitrogen gas makes up 78% of the atmosphere! Liquid nitrogen is great for making ice cream and preserving wine.
★ Al: Although aluminum is the most abundant metal in the earth's crust, it is never found free in nature. All of the earth's aluminum has combined with other elements to form compounds, the two most common compounds being alum and aluminum oxide. About 8.2% of the earth's crust is composed of aluminum.
